Julie Berman: Individual Psychotherapy & Counseling
Therapy can seem intimidating when
you first begin. What am I supposed to do in here? Will I feel better right away or soon? Can you fix me?
The first step is to forge an alliance so that you can trust me as a counselor and have faith that
this process will work. I am the professional with clinical expertise and experience but you are the expert on your life.
Together we will explore where you are currently in your life and how that is problematic for you. Then we will create a change
plan. That may mean coordinating with another professional who can prescribe medication and other times, it may not.
During an initial appointment you will answer questions about your current problems and symptoms, your history and your family.
This should provide insight into your current situation. From there we will make decisions collaboratively and idenitify what
your treatment goals are and how you will know when you have reached them.
Explorations
usually include behaviors, thoughts and feelings where there is shame and vulnerability.
